Meet Debra Bernier
I created Shaping Spirit Sculptures from a place of deep connection to nature, spirit, and the emotional lives of women and families.
I live on Vancouver Island with my family, where I gather the driftwood and natural elements that inspire many of my sculptures. Each piece begins as an original work that I sculpt in my studio, surrounded by forest and ocean. Nature is my constant inspiration and the quiet presence that guides my work. From this space, forms emerge that speak of love, motherhood, grief, healing, strength, and belonging.
Over the years, thousands of my sculptures have found homes, and I have received thousands of heartfelt messages from people who feel personally connected to the pieces they give and receive. Many customers return again and again, collecting sculptures to mark meaningful moments in their lives.
I create these works as more than decorative objects. Each sculpture is intended as a symbol of comfort, remembrance, encouragement, or love. They are often chosen during life transitions such as birth, loss, healing, and personal growth. Retailers often find that customers are drawn not only to the beauty of the pieces, but to the meaning they carry and the stories they hold.

Sculptures from the heart for the home -
“When we heal ourselves, we heal others. When we heal others, we heal ourselves.”
My mission as an artist is to create sculptures that embody deep feelings, a tangible symbol of the intangible.
Sometimes artwork allows us to speak when words fail. We are each on a journey of healing.
These sculptures are often created on themes like childhood healing, loss and celebrating the complexity of aging.
If you would like to contribute to this cause and make a donation, this actions helps fund my new projects of casting pieces that are affordable and accessible for people.
I'm always open to hearing suggestions for new sculptures / symbols for our shared journey.
With gratitude for your interest and support of my artwork,
- Debra
